El Burgo Ranero

Hello All....have done 17 kms today....the first 10 by 9.00am....we are in a lovely adobe albergue....sleeps 28 people in 4 rooms....much nicer than some of the huge dorms we´ve had. Have run into the same german mother & daughter for a few days now & they are in our room today.....not too sure that the mum is very well...smokes like a chimney & has to have a beer before she can ahve a shower!!! Coughs like an old derro....but for all that always pleased to run into us on the road. This albergue has an open fire that John is trying to help the hospitalero to get going....but it is very windy outside & the smoke is coming back down the chimney. Thank goodness it wasn´t this windy while we were walking....it was bad enough then....coming not so much from behind as from our right so not really a big help. This is a lovely quiet little town of just under 1000 people....very clean....no sign of sheep shit as we have had in lots of other places. They just drive their sheep down the street....really ugly sheep too....half of them their wool looks like it has just fallen off....they are all daggy & except that we haven´t really come across many flies I´m sure they would be fly blown as well.
We are going to cook our dinner here tonight as we are getting tired of the pilgrim´s menu they have in all the bars & restaurants....they are all the same & cost 8-9 euros each.
The walking gets a bit easier every day...as they say you walk into your fitness. My feet have been pretty good so far....fingers crossed....the little toe on the left is suffering the most....it has a giant blister on the end of it as it tends to get tucked under the next toe as I walk....hence after about ab hour of walking it begins to feel like every step I am putting my toes against a hot iron then pulling them off....not very pleasant. John´s feet are holding up well....in fact the most blisters have been on my hands from holding the hiking pole!!!!!
A special ¨Happy Mother´s Day¨to my Mum....hope you had a few of your kids around
Still walking through flat wheat fields...but very pretty all the same....all at different levels of maturity
Ronnie...one from John....Over the Hills & Far Away......or Rescue Me

Just catching up on your travels. Sounds like a great adventure. Please inform the barra master that I went fishing last Thursday on a perfect day on the barrier reef. The fish bit all day and we ended up with about 280kgs of whole fish. This equated to about 20kgs of fillets each. It's been a long spell waiting for good weather to coincide with no work.
We have been eating fish for most meals since. I start back at work today after 2 weeks off. Not impressed.
Tina, the blister thing. They should be becoming corns by now and easier to manage after all the miles. Are they getting better?
John. Good to hear your fitness is making the trip reasonably easy.
Stay well and'we'll talk soon.
Love Young Simon and Helen.

Hi J&T
Re: the blister thing.
If you see a chemist. That is if they have one there. They may have some of that gel tubing. You can buy it here but I don't know about the availability of things there. This may help to stop the toes rubbing together. I have used it on some of my long walks.

PS Keep on keeping on.
Trust Aussie mates!
Sure Can!!!!

Didn't get to this machine because the girls were here having the greatest time trying to write to you !!! Georgina thrilled to get your text and phoned straight away to tell us of the cold and the hotel, what smart thinking kiddos. Had a wonderful easy Mother's day, had calls from all available kids, even Paul who has been up north for the lasr week only got home late sunday. What interesting people you are meeting . I was a bit off on the weekend but today much better, always happens after I have seen the ear doc, he makes me go off balance. Must get on with a bit of sewing, and finish it off as the billard table looks a bit like your sheep. Take care, Enjoy Much love. P.S. Paul checked your camino trek and couldn't get over the size of it ...bloody long walk......

Hi...not long now to Leon. Hopefully being big it won't be too tricky to get around. I remember lolling on the banks of the river with a million Spaniards watching the fireworks and they were fired up and over the river in our direction...we were ducking flaming sticks.!! They were really good til that part.
Sounds like you're getting up earlier than the Germans to do 10km before 9am. Hang in there and keep going...

I'M SORRY TO HEAR THAT THE SHEEP ARE UGLY, JOHN. I KNOW YOU WERE HOPING FOR SOME PRETTY ONES!

I'M ENJOYING ALL YOUR BLOGS. IT'S BRINGING BACK GOOD MEMORIES OF TREKKING THE HIMALAYAS, EXCEPT FOR NO VINO AT THE END OF THE DAY, JUST YAK BUTTER TEA - SALTY AND HOT!!

Hey Tina, some of your tape around each of the last two toes will stop all that squishing together and under business! I have to do it too. It's our "Dad Toes"!

Hi Pilgrams
Sounds like you are doing well...keep up the good work
Here is "Rescue Me" although it does not sound like you need it
You and Me
We're walkin on this track
You and Me
We will never look back
Cause we're gonna see it through
To the end of the Santiagoooo

Come on , just you and me
Come on baby, can't you see
I need you and you need me
Together ....side by side
Up and down this countryside
You and Me

Come on and take my hand
Grab your pack and make a stand
Cause we're gonna see it through
I need you and your love too

Repeat Verse 2

Keep on Singin
Love you
Ron and Di

Tape??? Gel??? Has everybody forgotten you're supposed to piss on them.
I also went fishing the other night and absolutely nailed them. Then I woke up.
I found your trek on Google and was blown away. A huge challenge and you ARE doing it.
I enjoy your blogs and look forward to the next "episode".
Keep up the effort.
Nothing new with the family. Trying to squeeze in driving hours for our learner between school and work. First time on the M1 was interesting. I think he said "holy cow" or something similar.
