Got into Leon early yesterday morning...like lots of other pilgrims we got the bus for the last few kms as we were only walking through the industrial areas & right beside a very smelly & busy highway....many, many trucks flying past us very closely!!!!
Have decided to have 2 nights here in a hotel.... so nice to have our own room & bathroom....no snorers or snufflers or other farters around us......just peace & quiet....don´t even have to try to get dressed ünder cover¨.....unbelievable how the simple things mean so much. Ran into a couple of people we met about 8 or 9 days ago & they feel just like us....sick of seeing each other in the same old clothes....all our photos will have the same clothes.....we´re all ready for some new ones at the end of the trip.
Think I forgot to tell you....the pedestrian traffic lights here are really cute.....when it´s time to walk a little green man starts to walk too, & at the same time there is a digital countdown so you know how long you´ve got left....as it gets down to the last 10 or 15 seconds the little man starts walking faster & in the last 5 secs he starts to run....then he goes red & the countdown starts again so you know how long before it´s your turn again....seems to work really well as no-one jay-walks. We like to watch the little green man getting faster!!!! (Simple things, simple minds!!!)
Leon is beautiful....we´ve nearly worn out the old city streets....been round & round....this morning went for a walk around some of the newer streets....though still quite old....all beautiful buildings....the Cathedral is absolutely magnificent....lit a candle for you Mum to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour....the stained glass windows are reputed to be the best in Europe....some are so high you can´t even make out what they are, but the colours are glorious.
M-M....heard some fireworks last night but we think they were from the room down the hall!!!!!!
(Something about roman candles & lots of oohs & aahs!!!)
Lucas...thanks for keeping an eye on the house...also to all the others we know are having a quick check as they go past....it is much appreciated by us both
John´s lergy has turned into a full-blown cold today & he is feeling quite miserable...just wants his own bed & some real food.....porridge, cereal, juice....all home stuff....sick of bread, which we get with every meal. He´s also getting cranky just now as we are in the hotel and the light is on a timer which keeps turning off....he has to get up & move near the sensor to get it on again....you can just imagine, can´t you!!!
My toe is feeling a lot better today....managed to burst the blister yesterday....now I just have a sore spot on the top where it rubs against the other toe....got it wrapped in sheeps wool today to try before we walk again tomorrow. Will probably get the bus again for the first 6kms or so to get out of town...then start walking again
Mum...the actual distance we were originally aiming to cover was 800kms....but we will now be doing between 500 - 550kms....got about 350kms to go....I think...maybe less
love to all

Hey guys, sounds like things are going along well now, got yourselves into a good groove.
No news from home, all is well.
love, Rich
You're sounding quite a bit happier these days, thank goodness. Maybe you need to do something a bit citified and groovy to change your focus a bit?
Can you get fruit to help you along? The stomach gets an acid feel when too much bread , but you need the carbs to keep you on the go. Got a bit spoilt at the hotel,eh? Now you are on the hard yards again, really proud of ypu both. Poor John, feeling lousy, but like a briton will carry on! Singing as you march along....but please not within earshot of others.!!! Tina make sure you don't get your toe infected...This is the mother in me talking. Are you going to frame your clothes AND must have signature with them for authenticity. Just had Swan's budget ....think you will be o.k. as only slugging those who earn $150,oo.oo per annum. That ferrari you were going to get will have BIG tax on it..so think again !!! Travel safely 5ookms is a long hike. Much love Enjoy
Sounds like you have really motored on, can't quite believe how quickly all those 20kms you keep mentioning add up. You should be finished in the next week or so and will get plenty of time in the Uk if you wish.
Nothing new to report here. Waiting to hear about a couple of places but that's about all. love you both x x
Hi John and Tina,
I am soo loving following this with you. I can smell the stinky cigarette's (Mike just went back to SA) I almost tasted the Vino, know how much you love white bread - blergh. I am even enjoying the songs, remeber if things get too quiet you can always try singing Right said Fred, see if that produces a nice cup of tea, hmmm. Off on the bike again this weekend , the thighs are Ok I need a butt of steel, or maybe just good really well padded bike pants.
Love to both of you keep plodding on.
Sankers
Good to hear you are in Leon & staying in a hotel. You've earn't the right to indulge yourselves! Even though it's the simple everyday pleasures you most want to enjoy.
With some rest, hopefully your toes & John's cold will improve.
I joined Sylvia & her walking friends yesterday for a 10K walk through Minnippi parklands/Carindale area. Really nice group of women... They meet once a month...each has a turn of organising a walk & appartently sometimes it's a two day expedition. So looking forward to next month.
Crinny slipped on wet floor & dislocated & fractured her little toe yesterday...too sore to walk or drive yet.
Happy & safe walking... I can't help bragging about my wonderful friends trekking through Spain... so keep the updates coming .
Love Paula & Kerry
